Wish I could attach screenshots to this post. Not sure how to do that or if it’s possible. Wii U to tumblr, anyone know?
I’ve been playing New Super Mario Bros U with the family tonight. Mike and I take turns playing on screen Mario. Belle does the game pad boost mode. She’s a great booster. Stunning all the shit and making pretty blocks. I have more “Mario skill” but Mike has much greater perseverance.
Story mode: made it to … Soda jungle? Something like that. The scenery got big and reminded me of old school mario games. So far we’ve used the cheater luigi on one ghost house level. Love love doing boost mode. Adds a lot of fun and laughter and communication to the play. I’m enjoying looking for all the yellow coins and Not “looking it up”.
Challenge mode: having fun messing around with challenges. Mike is pretty good at the races and timed courses. I get all anxious when I feel rushed. It’s amazing how hard simple tasks can be.
I’ve read some posts and reviews from people who only played solo. I really recommend getting a pal and giving boost mode a serious try. It’s easily my favorite thing about this game. (I know not everyone has awesome gamer nerd spouses. I recommend getting one or two of those too. Easily my favorite thing about life.)
I am a huge animal crossing fan- and I don’t have a 3DS right now, so I was stoked to find out there is an Animal Crossing mini game on the Nintendo Land disc that came with our wii U bundle. What a huge bummer! The game is nothing like animal crossing. It’s just another “chase friend around” game. They could have done fishing or bug catching competition. They could have done a small house to decorate. They could have done something like Island Tours. But instead it’s just chasing the elephant around. I hope some of the other mini games are better.
We got a Wii U recently. So far, we’ve got Pikmin 3, nintendo land and new super mario bros U. We’ve been playing with one or two people on screen and another person using the game pad for “boost mode.” The booster can create blocks/pathways for mario to jump on. They can also stun or kill certain enemies and activate moon 3-up boxes and a few other small things. It’s possible to reach many spots without a Boost but the boost blocks make it quicker or safer. Belle and I tease that we have the same brain- it’s been fun to see the way we co-op together. Graphics are great, controls are natural- except for flying squirrel mode which I can’t seem to get the hang of. We’re in the third world now- will write again as we get further in.
